Welcome to the New Season

I'm excited to kick off our new season here at Sasquatch Watch Radio. It's January 6th, 2025, and we've got an incredible guest lined up for you tonight: Luke Gross from Texas. Before we jump in, I just want to check in with my co-host, Gary. How are you holding up in this snow apocalypse?

Just like you, I spent a good chunk of time today battling with about 10 inches of snow. It’s been quite the challenge, but we’re managing!

Now, Luke, it’s great to have you on the show! We've only met tonight, but I’ve heard you have quite the story to share. Let’s get right into it. Can you tell us about your experience back in November 1984?

You know, I’ve hiked all over this country and thought I had seen everything, until that one evening changed everything for me. It’s a quiet, crisp November night, and I was at my mom's house near Greenville, Texas.

As my wife and daughter were settled in for the night, my mom and I were just hanging out in the living room with the front door open. Then, she taps me on the shoulder, pointing outside. That’s when I noticed something on the porch.

I’ll admit, I scooted back faster than you can imagine—I got rug burns from it! We had a bunch of cat food out for her 15 cats, and there it was, standing there. It eventually turned around and walked off, leaving me completely stunned. I couldn’t believe something like this was possible in such a rural area.

That initial encounter ignited a series of events. I found out later that my mom had experienced weird occurrences for years—things being thrown at the house, strange knocks. I had spent many nights at her place when I was younger, and there were times when I would hear something slap the house or throw a rock.

Fast forward to November 2000, and I had another sighting. I was out on the porch when I heard a swishing sound—a sound I recognized from my past in Oklahoma. I discreetly moved towards the fence line, and there it was, about 60 yards away.

This time, I felt no fear. My curiosity was peaked. It was a passive encounter, and being able to observe it was incredible. I marked a spot on a nearby tree that was nearly 8.5 feet tall, confirming my suspicion about its size—it was a light color, something like khaki.

That color allowed it to blend perfectly with the surrounding area. Sometimes, people expect sightings to be different colors—like black—but I think they’d be surprised by what might really be out there.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, Gary. Based on what Luke shared, do you think we should dive into the topic of habituation?

The Inciting Incident of November 1984

Luke's Early Hiking Experiences

I've hiked all over the country—Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico—thought I’d seen every kind of wildlife out there. Coming back to Texas, I wasn't expecting anything unusual, especially not 17 miles outside of Greenville, where it was all farmland.

Encounter at the Front Porch

It was a nice November night. My wife and daughter were already in bed, and I was sitting with my mom, watching TV. Suddenly, she tapped me on the shoulder and said, “Hey, you see that?” I looked outside, and there was something standing on the porch. With my mom feeding 15 cats, I wasn’t prepared for this encounter. I scooted back so fast on the rug that I got rug burns! This thing looked around for a moment, then turned and walked off.

The Creature’s Habits and Appearance

From what I saw, this creature had a light color, almost like khaki or a cardboard box. It blended in with the dry grass in the area. I later realized it stood about 8 and a half feet tall. I remember how calm it felt afterward; I wasn’t scared when I saw it walking down the fence line.

Prior Events at Luke's Mother’s House

Before my sighting, my mom had experiences I didn’t even know about. There were knocks, bumps, and even things thrown at the house. I had spent nights out there with her when she was sick, and I experienced things like slapping sounds on the side of the house. After my initial encounter, I learned there was a history there, a sort of habituation that had been going on for more than 30 years.

Further Encounters and Insights

Sighting in November 2000

In November 2000, I had another sighting that I’ll never forget. I was out near my house, which I had moved to, and I walked off the front porch. As I approached a cedar tree, I heard a swishing sound, something I recognized from previous experiences in Oklahoma. As I peered around the tree, I spotted a creature walking along the fence line, around 60 yards away. It was a passive encounter; I was able to observe it without fear, which was quite liberating.

Analysis of Creature's Height

After my sighting, I measured a tree that stood along the fence line where I had seen the creature. It stood about 8 and a half feet tall. The height was significant, and it aligned with my previous experience seeing a similar-sized figure. The creature had a light color, similar to the first one I had encountered, and it occurred to me that it could have been the same one or perhaps one of its offspring.

Lack of Facial Detail Observations

When I first spotted the creature on my porch back in 1984, I didn't get a good look at its face. All I could see was the body, which was towering above the door. Similarly, during my 2000 sighting, I couldn’t see any facial details. The creature was moving away from me, making it difficult to observe its features. It seems that in both encounters, the head was obscured from my view.

Discussion on Creature's Awareness

During the 1984 sighting, I thought to myself that this creature shouldn’t have been there. It startled me quite a bit. However, looking back, I wonder if it was aware of us. In the 2000 encounter, it felt like the creature was habituated to the area, moving with a familiarity that suggested it knew the surroundings well. It’s fascinating how these beings seem to integrate into the environment over time.

Sasquatch Description and Camouflage

The Khaki Coloration

During my encounters, I've consistently noticed an interesting coloration among Sasquatch. The one I spotted in 2000 had a very light color, almost like khaki—think of a cardboard box or a pair of khaki britches. It blended in seamlessly with the surrounding environment, which was primarily farmland, dry grass, and hay.

Environment and Blending

The natural environment plays a massive role in how Sasquatch camouflages itself. In areas with plenty of grass and hay, the khaki color helps these creatures disappear into the background. If it dropped to the ground, I doubt anyone would ever spot it. This natural blending makes their presence even more mysterious, as it’s easy to overlook them in their habitat.

Variability in Sasquatch Colors

I've heard varying descriptions of Sasquatch colors from different encounters. While I saw one that was cinnamon brown with some reddish tints, others have claimed to see them in white, brown, and even black. The black ones seem less common, especially in forested areas where they would stand out against the greenery. Each sighting seems to present its own unique color palette, adding to the intrigue surrounding these creatures.

Concept of Habituation

Personal Reconciliation with Habituation

I used to think that habituation was some kind of myth, something I’d laugh off if someone brought it up. But after experiencing the strange happenings around my mom's house for years, I realized I was completely wrong. There were knocks, bumps, and strange sounds that I never took seriously until I saw something for myself in 1984. When I first saw what I believed to be a Sasquatch, it was clear that it was accustomed to being in the area, almost like it belonged there.

This first sighting shook me to my core. It wasn’t supposed to be there—something so large just standing on my mom's porch. Yet, there was a sense of familiarity in its presence, as if it knew the area well. Years later, when I had my second sighting, I felt different. I had spent time researching and learning, and my fear transformed into passive curiosity. The creature I saw during that encounter was just going about its business, completely unbothered by my presence.

Implications for Sasquatch Behavior

Understanding habituation helps explain a lot about Sasquatch behavior. For one, these creatures seem to be very adaptable and aware of their surroundings. They’ve figured out how to blend in—like the light khaki color I observed—allowing them to stay hidden amidst farmlands and dry grass.

The fact that these creatures can coexist with humans in such close proximity for long periods suggests that they may rely on their ability to remain unnoticed. My encounters demonstrated a pattern of behavior that was not aggressive or fearful. Instead, it indicated a level of comfort that went hand in hand with their habituation to the area. I find it fascinating how they can exist in our world without us realizing it most of the time.
